Our modern society certainly values
intellectual mastery and deservedly so for with out it, we would not
be meeting here. But at the same time, what I will call emotional mastery
seems less valued.
Sometimes this is quite public like in the case
of the former President who was compelled to have extra-marital sex in
the oval office. Most times, much more private.
Like in my case,
for example, where exceptional education and career achievement
was behind the scenes riddled with alcohol abuse (my ex’s) and depression (mine.)
And while I couldn’t do much about the former, I could and in
fact, it was my responsibility to deal with the latter. |

My personal quest took me down both
conventional and unconventional avenues. The conventional-
modern psychology- helped to a certain point. It helped to
talk to a mature, neutral party. I did become clear about my
feelings in the moment and the medication helped me to take
certain action based on those feelings. But neither
assisted with the years of accumulated emotion pent up inside
me. Nor taught me any way of coping with future traumatic
experience. To prevent the same old cycle from repeating
itself. And while manipulating brain chemistry is helpful
in the short-term, it is not an acceptable long-term solution
for someone on a
spiritual path.
Here is where my
forays into the unconventional proved more successful. I started reading
books and attending various classes and seminars. Some resonated more than others. I was
particularly drawn to trance channeling- both group sessions and
one on one conversations
with non-physical teachers through full trance channels.
More talking, yes,
but amazingly succinct, openly loving and also… way beyond talking for I
was introduced to practical concepts and began to feel for the first
time the first inklings of empowerment. Power within me, within us
all, to take charge of our emotional well-being. To cope more
gracefully with the present and to work to release and resolve the past.
To work consciously and appropriately towards my goal- to spend more
time in the positive, connected to my heart. With the help of the right Tools, of
course!
